Breguet 7027 Owner Review by @ikarlwatches

Mastering Tradition. Breguet 7027

The Breguet La Tradition 7027 is a masterpiece that marries historical craftsmanship with modern watchmaking innovation. In this review, I will share my journey of discovering this exceptional timepiece, delve into its rich history, describe its unique features, and discuss its perceived drawbacks that, in my opinion, make it even more special.

How I Discovered the Watch
The first time I encountered La Tradition was in a post on WatchProSite back in 2008. A forum member showcased both sides of a fascinating watch, with numerous visible components, all meticulously labeled to illustrate its complexity. The watch, crafted entirely in striking yellow gold, exuded sophistication and balance, blending intricate detail with aesthetic beauty. I was captivated, even though at the time, my interest was solely in large steel divers and sports watches.

History of the Model
Breguet, a name synonymous with horological excellence, has a storied legacy dating back to its founding by Abraham-Louis Breguet in 1775. The La Tradition line pays homage to the rich heritage of the brand, drawing inspiration from Breguet’s early subscription watches, known for their simplicity and technical brilliance.

The La Tradition 7027, introduced in 2005, was a significant milestone for Breguet. It marked a return to the roots of traditional watchmaking, featuring a design that exposes the movement on the dial side, reminiscent of Breguet’s original tact model. This historical connection, combined with modern innovation, makes the 7027 a bridge between the past and present of horology.

Description
La Tradition 7027 is a stunning example of watchmaking art. With classic dimensions, the watch boasts a wearable 37mm case made of yellow gold, a material that enhances its classic appeal. The case is finely polished and features Breguet’s signature fluted sides.

The open-worked dial is a spectacle. It prominently displays the movement’s components, especially the mainspring barrel, gear train, and escapement, each meticulously finished. The off-centered hours and minutes subdial is in silvered gold, providing a subtle contrast.

At the heart of the 7027 is the manually-wound Caliber 507DR, beautifully decorated with traditional techniques, visible through both the front and back of the watch.

The brown alligator leather strap complements its classic look, perhaps a bit too much, but ensures comfort and coherence. Blue straps also work perfectly well, down-dressing the piece and offering a more casual look.

The open architecture of the dial, revealing the inner workings, is what truly sets the 7027 apart. It offers a unique view into the watch’s mechanical soul, embodying the brand’s ethos of technical excellence and aesthetic sophistication.

Just wow!

Unique Characteristics & Drawbacks
While the Breguet La Tradition 7027 is a remarkable timepiece, it does have certain aspects that might be seen as drawbacks.

• Yellow Gold vs. White Metal: The full yellow gold construction might be too much for those who prefer discretion. I must admit that white gold was my preference until I saw this piece in person. The watch is eye-catching, but its contained size and lug design make it very wearable. Additionally, yellow gold is directly rooted in the origins of the piece.
• Legibility: The intricate design and exposed movement can be overwhelming for those who prefer simpler watch faces.
• Size: At 37mm, it is smaller than the trend for larger watches, which might not appeal to everyone. However, all the elements come together beautifully when you see it on the wrist.

To conclude, the Breguet La Tradition 7027 in yellow gold is a masterpiece that blends traditional watchmaking with modern advancements. A piece that will undoubtedly elevate any collection and satisfy even the most seasoned collector
