With the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15450ST coming in at 37mm in size, the question on people minds is “Is this watch going to be too small?” Especially as the original model was 39mm in size. However, luckily due to its hexagonal shape and integrated bracelet it wears slightly bigger. I would say more like a 38mm watch. It is certainly a medium size watch for my average sized 6.75 inch wrist.
When it comes to visual excitement, the Royal Oak is a real head turner. From the amazing Grande Tapisserie patterned dial to the integrated bracelet. For me the bracelet is the real standout of this watch. The bracelet’s polished edges always catch the light and really make this a jewellery piece, and in a very good way. It really is a work of art.
What spoils it though is the 3120 movement. It’s beautiful, but keeping accurate time is not its strength and when spending big money on a watch, it’s a basic function that it must get right.
At first, not being accurate didn’t bother me, but I wore this watch for about 7 months as a daily wearer. With each passing month, I got more and more frustrated with the frequent adjusting of time. I mean they (Audemars Pigeut Le Brassus) have been making watches since 1875!
For me, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15450ST is like a beautiful girl who I have chased for a long time and fallen in love with. We spent 8 glorious months together, but in the end, I knew she wasn’t the one for me. With great sorrow, we had to part ways.
