The Tudor Black Bay 58 is one of those watches that needs no introduction. It’s a watch that has become one of those watches that ends up on everyone’s list of relatively reasonably priced watches to recommend anyone. The smaller little brother/sister of the original 41mm Black Bay, this gorgeous thing stands out in photos. We all notice it, with it’s classic gilt and black dial combo and that beautiful red pip at 12 o’clock. But, having it on the wrist is a whole different affair. It sits so comfortably, gleaming in its chilled-out way, wanting to go on all kinds of adventures, both casual and formal.
That’s not all though, as the BB58 is also a strap monster, rocking both steel and leather with ease. Mine is on the OEM Tudor leather with the deployant clasp; they got it just right as it is one of the most comfortable straps I own, and the clasp feels premium and is easy to use yet feels super secure. The design rocks, the movement is solid and the power reserve is killer. It almost makes me worry about the resulting watch neglect of the rest of my collection that will be triggered by this purchase.
I wasn’t sure at first, and didn’t know if he’d do it for me, thought he was a bit small, and then… Bam! Love at first sight and now I can’t get enough of him. It’s been my daily wearer for awhile now, and I don’t think that’s going to change anytime soon. Reality doesn’t always meet your expectations, but some things, like the Tudor Black Bay 58 are just better in real life.
