Owner Review: Dennison Midnight Aventurine in Steel by @watchesandwords

A simple but extremely cool quartz watch

The Dennison A.L.D. is a watch that immediately caught my eye when it first appeared. The design, size, colours and overall look of this watch are, without a doubt, simply beautiful. No wonder, since the design comes from Emmanuel Gueit.
He is the designer of many well-known and impressive watches, such as the Ikepod watches or many other timepieces from Rolex, Audemars Piguet, and Piaget. He also made wonderful co-designs for AP together with Jacqueline Dimier. For me, that’s already outstanding. And not to forget: he is the son of Jean Claude Gueit who has designed some evergreen Piaget watches in the 1960s and 70s.
The Dennison watch case company is also a well known brand with a long history. They designed and produced watch cases (wristwatch and pocketwatch) for brands such as IWC, Rolex, Jaeger LeCoultre to name only a few. Today, not many people know the history of Dennison.
Out of the blue, in 2024, Dennison comes back to the stage of watchmaking with the cool jet-set designed and posh watches of the A.L.D. collection, all quartz, all in the cushion-shaped case, and all at a very attractive price. Traditionalists might feel sad, that Dennison now might stand for entry level quartz watches.

I guess I am too much of a horrible and conservative snob

I tried my best not to like the watches. Why? I think I am too much of a horrible snob. And I am sure, I have a flawed character trait. I just didn’t want to like an inexpensive new quartz watch. And the more I tried to ignore the Dennison A.L.D., the more I liked it. It is just a simple but extremely cool watch. I couldn’t get it out of my head. For days, I asked my colleague at work, Laura, a designer by profession, whether she likes the shape, size, and style of the Dennison A.L.D. And her answer was and is always a resounding yes. And I listen to what she says. So finally I decided to buy one.

Everyone seems to like this watch

Since months I have asked many people about their opinion on this watch, and everyone, absolutely everyone, has commented positively on it.There seems to be nothing wrong with this Dennison. If you appreciate this characteristic design by E. or J.C. Gueit, then this is currently the logical choice for purchasing an affordable and beautiful watch for many occasions.
