RGMT is a relatively new watch company that specializes in overbuilt military inspired tool watches. With model names like Artillery, BattleDress and Demolition well, you get the idea.
The RGMT New Demolition seems to be a more feature-heavy version of the Demolition model. To start with, it has a pretty standard diver bezel that appears to be powder coated a brown/bronze color that matches the textured brown dial. Inside the bezel it has a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating. The dial is surrounded by a tachymeter and features a chronograph.
The RGMT New Demolition has screw down crowns and pushers which obviously help it maintain the claimed 2000 meter water resistance. It even has a helium escape valve for the serious professional divers. It really is a useful watch but it’s far from perfect.
The 2000 meter depth rating is a hell of a claim, but after seeing the size and weight of this watch, I believe it. It’s a big, thick, chunky boy. The case is 46mm which is big for most wrists in my opinion, but not too big. It’s also 20mm thick. Add to that a chunky 22mm wide steel bracelet you have a watch that is uncomfortably heavy. I’ve gotten used to it, but I’m always aware there’s a boat anchor on my wrist when I’m wearing it.
The RGMT New Demolition has an MSRP of $1,250 USD, although I see it retail for about $800. That would be reasonable if not for the quartz movement inside. I’m sure there’s an argument to be made for the accuracy of quartz in a serious tool watch like this, but for the price, it feels like a let down. Fortunately, if you do like this watch, you can get it for about $300 like I did by spinning the watchgang wheel. And for that price, I’m happy enough with it.
