I recently purchased the Hermes Arceau Grande Lune and I must say it is an elegant dress watch. This version comes with the blue calf skin strap with deployant clasps. Coming in at 43mm, legibility is good for people with waning eyesight.
The power reserve of the Hermes Arceau Grande Lune comes in at 42 hours and it features a sapphire crystal and case back. Under the hood is an ETA 2892 base with triple calendar module.
The dial of the Hermes Arceau Grande Lune is a stunning sunburst blue outer dial which looks different under various lighting conditions. The inner dial looks more like a matte blue. This is my first triple calendar / moonphase watch and there is just an air about it that puts a smile on my face.
I’ve seen a few really nice annual / perpetual calendar watches from the likes of Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet but if you have a much smaller budget, you could consider this Hermes Arceau. Since this watch is not an annual calendar, you will have to set the dates on the months with less than 31 days. Not a big issue as the recessed pushers for setting the month, date, moonphase and day are located at the 2, 4, 8 and 10 o’clock positions respectively.
In the box, under the cushion the watch sits on, there is an Hermes tool that you can use to set those items. Alternatively, a toothpick would also do the job. To set the time, you just have to pull out the crown and adjust it. Take note that this is not a screw down crown so you shouldn’t be bathing or swimming with it.
I have a 20.5cm (8 inch) wrist and on the Hermes website, it states that the Hermes Arceau Grande Lune should fit wrist sizes from 16-19cm. For me, to be able to wear the watch, I have to put the pin into the last hole of the strap. The watch fits a bit too snugly for my liking but I could always purchase another longer strap in the future.
In conclusion, for $8.9k SGD (about $6.3K USD), the Hermes Arceau Grande Lune is a stunning triple date / moonphase Swiss watch that I feel is great value for money.
