The Omega Constellation is overlooked in the brands’ offerings. When we think about Omega the watches that immediately come to mind are the Seamaster and of course the iconic Speedmaster. The Constellation line has been in Omega’s catalog for more than half a century appearing for the first time in the 1950’s. The famous pie-pan dials of the 1960’s come to mind in particluar.
The Omega Constellation was revamped in the ’80s with the “claws” in the sides of the case and the addition of an integrated bracelet. These new features found success initially but over the years the design has again dated. Collectors and enthusiasts don’t necessarily appreciate it, and if they do, they don’t necessarily buy it. Again, Omega did try to give the Constellation a more modern look with the double eagle line introduced in 2008, but it didn’t pick up.
In my view, something awe-inspiring did happen with the Omega Constellation in 2020. A few refinements to the dial, case and strap were made, changing its look and feel completely. If I think about the entire offering from the brand my least favourite was definitely the Omega Constellation. I found it very dull and dated.
The Omega that I always loved was drawn to is the Seamaster 300m, but when I first saw the Omega Constellation in the flesh it was undoubtedly very impressive. It has a textured dial that’s very reminiscent of meteorite, the ceramic bezel is crisp and eye catching, the case finishing is beautiful and the strap combining alligator and rubber feels and wears incredibly well. In my mind the whole watch came together perfectly.
The Omega Constellation movement is a caliber 8900 METAS certified master chronometer, is in my opinion, one of the best in-house movements by a mass production brand like Omega in the market today. The feel and accuracy of this movement is delightful.
This other thing about this watch is the fact that it goes well with any outfit at any occasion. It is a fantastic daily wearer, and it certainly brightens up my day with that dial and how it plays with light. A truly well-thought-out piece that makes the Omega Constellation relevant again.
