Owner Review: Smiths Everest PRS-25

Smiths Everest PRS-25

Watches! Why? Do we really need a constant reminder from a watch, like this Smith’s Everest PRS-25, that we are in a hurry, or behind schedule, or even missing out on certain things? Do we even need to track time nowadays when even your coffee machine has a clock? No! So, why watches then? Watches and watch collecting (I hate that term) is subjective and entirely rooted in feelings and emotions, or at least, that’s how I feel anyway.

My go-to watch is the notoriously known Smiths Everest (I think all y’all know the story, but if not, google it) and I love it for everything it is, and for everything it is not. I love it and not because it is clearly a nod to previous ancient models by a certain Swiss brand. But is it, really? This is arguably better than the old watch ever was, and the old one was an homage as well and a clever marketing strategy too! Some will yell “FAKE!!” But is it really? Then, if so, all divers except one are fakes… Sorry, you know it’s true! I did not buy this because it looks like the watch I can’t afford. No, I bought it because it looks good and I’m pretty fucking stoked to wear it. It looks great on that grey nato sitting on my pale tattooed arms! If you think otherwise? Fuck it, don’t buy it, I don’t care. Feelings aren’t fake and that’s what watches are all about.

The watch is put very well together from the 36mm dial, to the sleek case, to the workhorse Miyota 9039 movement, and even the domed sapphire crystal with the blue AR hue. It’s just cool, really. I don’t need a reason to defend my decision. At least I didn’t buy a Steinhart or an Invicta. Lately, watch fascination has really become a play of: “What’s your favorite dial color?” Eh… Purple?! “Ewww, are you stupid? That’s a stupid colour.” Chill, we basically like the same thing. But seriously though, the new logo is nicer than this and the bracelet sucks! If you are lucky and able to buy a Smiths Everest PRS-25, go get a generic bracelet or a nato.
