The Seiko SKX013 is one of my favorite dive watches, at 38mm it is one of my favorite daily wear watches. One of my favorite aspects of the skx013 is the size, it really makes it the most wearable in the SKX line up especially for those of us with smaller wrists. The SKX013 is about the same thickness as its bigger brother the SKX007, it’s no dress watch but I’d say it slides under the cuff pretty easily. Another one of my favorite aspects is the durability of the Seiko SKX013. I’ve worn it while swimming in a lake in the summer, to a camping trip outside in sub zero temps for 24hrs. The SKX also has a massive third party mod community and while I’ve only faded my bezel I’ve considered putting a sapphire crystal or possibly a new movement in it. It is nice to have such a vast amount of options to choose from to truly make a one of a kind watch. The Seiko hardlex crystal is fairly durable although I have managed to put some hairline scratches on the crystal. I’d say I’ve put it through its paces and would still say the crystal is durable although not as hard as a sapphire crystal.
While the SKX013 prices have risen quite a bit recently, I’d say its good value if you can find it under the 250 to 300 range. I might add the cheapest skx013 on a bracelet that I can find on amazon is for $550, which i would say is too much. In my opinion if you’re going to buy any SKX, I would say to buy it on a bracelet. I bought my SKX007 on the OEM rubber strap and I regret not spending more to buy it on the bracelet. The same goes for the SKX013 as the bracelet while rattly is very comfortable. I’ve found the accuracy to be about 5 to 10 +/- a day but the factory specs are 25 +/- a day. The lume is Seiko proprietary compound and is very bright and legible and glows brightly for many hours. The SKX013 is rated for 200m. Overall I’d say the Seiko SKX013 is a great option for someone looking for a smaller dive watch for daily wear, and it’s one of my favorite watches that I’ve owned lately. (note in the photos that I’ve faded my bezel)
