Sevenfriday is a brand that is the birth child of social media, with their claim to fame being associated with WatchAnish. Established in 2012, their watches are a tribute to industrial design. Sevenfriday is a lifestyle brand targeted towards younger audiences. I was attracted to the brand because of the design and brand identity. They make something truly unique but it won’t break the bank. It was my grail watch when I started collecting watches back in 2014, and the M-series, in particular, was something I was attracted to for a long time. I got my Sevenfriday M2 back in 2018 and it has been my go-to weekend watch since!
Getting into the watch itself, the overall design is very striking and at 47mm it has a presence on the wrist. Telling the time on this piece is done through disks that indicate the hour minutes and seconds. The dial is incredible, with multi-layers building the incredibly complex dial of the M series. It takes time to get used to the dial layout, but let’s be honest we don’t buy watches just to tell time.
The case is substantial and well finished (weighing around 130 grams without the strap) with the case constructed of PVD coated 316L steel. The leather strap is well constructed including the pin buckle which is also in PVD coated steel. Sevenfriday incorporates an NFC chip on the case back for authenticating the watch through their app, a very smart way to authenticate your watch. The movement is a Miyota which is a workhorse Japanese movement, it does the job but its nothing fancy. Overall it’s a cool and unique watch that gets quite a bit of attention but its not something to wear every day, save it for the weekends. It is something different than the usual pieces offered in the $1,000-1,500 price range. The Sevenfriday M2 is definitely a lot of fun for not a lot of money!
