On this episode of The Defining Time Show, Anthony and Alex are joined by Michael Woods from Woods Watchmaking. We discuss indepth about his journey and education in the watch industry. We talk to Michael about his family history of watchmaking and the early age where he started to work on these incredible machines. His early dreams in life and how this went on to him training at WOSTEP. Michael shares interesting and fun stories from during his WOSTEP training. The friends he made and the projects he worked on.
He didn’t got straight to Rolex though. He almost got a job at Patek Philippe. We hear about his bench test job interview wth Patek and the mistakes made.
Michael then goes on to tell us about how he became a watchmaker at Rolex. The kind of work he did and the kind of company Rolex is to work for. He talks about working on incredibly rare $1M Rolex dials and his progression to becoming the workshop manager. Everything that’s happened has got him to where he is now as an independent watchmaker who specializes in vintage Rolex. There’s also a brief chat about Michael’s latest independent watchmaking project. Grab a whiskey (we did), sit back and enjoy the show.
