Owner Review: Rolex Submariner “Bluesy” 116613LB

116613LB

There’s not a single WIS in the world that isn’t familiar with its calling – brushed bracelet, solid case, invincible movement and a black dial and bezel. Most call it, “the sports tool watch to own”. But what if we add a splash of blue… and some blocks of gold? Let’s find out. In focus, we have the modern-day Rolex Submariner Ceramic Date. This particular reference the Rolex Submariner “Bluesy” 116613LB first launched in 2009 as a successor to the prior generation 16613LB.

Featuring the new maxi dial and case with a solid bracelet allows the Rolex Submariner “Bluesy” 116613LB to have a tremendous hefty weight on the wrist. Reliable as they say, the Rolex 3135 in-house calibre ticks away at 28,800 beats/hour and does wonders for accuracy and peace of mind for a full 48 hours. However, the most distinctive elements of this piece were not the movement nor the brushed bracelet. This timepiece boasted unique polished centre links in 18K yellow gold and a bright blue cerachrom bezel with sunburst dial.

We ask ourselves, is this a tool watch any more? What has Rolex done to the iconic Submariner!? Well, they’ve done something fantastic. The durability of the traditional Submariner is now complimented with a touch of gold and the mesmerising blue sunburst dial is arguably one of the best vivid blues on the market. This complete package just works for me. A beautiful striking ticking masterpiece to adore from any angle and an absolute honour to own. The Rolex Submariner “Bluesy” 116613LB has become a new timepiece for a new segment. It has set a benchmark for the unlimited capabilities our imagination can explore.

Gentlemen, the Bluesy.

I owned the 2000 version, that had the gold through the buckle black, SS/18k version. I loved that watch so much! Great review here and I totally agree about the gold on the links scratching up easy!
