The Doxa Searambler 300 50th Anniversary was reproduced in a limited edition run of 300. An interesting fact is that the silver dial searambler and the black dial sharkhunter never sold out of the limited 300. The later produced Aqua-Lung versions did sell out which make the non aqua-lung versions rarer as less than the 300 were made. It’s been estimated on the Doxa forums that around 195 non-Aqualung Searamblers and 150 non-Aqualung Sharkhunters were sold.
The watch is pretty much identical in every way to the original apart from bracelet design and sapphire crystal.
It wears the smallest of all Doxas. The case measures 42.5mm in diameter but the dial measures only 25.5mm and feels extremely vintage looking on the wrist. The dial gives a sunburst effect that is hard to capture in pictures.
The thing I love about Doxa is nothing is similar to any other watch. From the hands, to the dial layout, the bezel, the case shape, to the beads of rice bracelet, everything just screams Doxa.
The movement is the 2824-2 Chronometer grade with COSC certificate so an easy one for watchmakers to service.
The bezel click is solid and has a reliable feel, no slip or movement.
The bracelet is nice using individual beads of rice it also feels strong but I would have preferred a true taper from 20mm to 18mm instead of a flange of 22mm then 20mm at the clasp
The crystal is a sapphire dome which is very nice and I think most people would prefer it as it will resist scratches. I think plexiglass should have been given as an option for a true vintage look. The omega moon watch gives two options and on that watch I also think plexiglass is the way to go.
The Doxa Searambler 300 50th Anniversary is an excellent vintage reissue watch. I like the watch a lot, so much so I hunted down an orange black lung pro as well.
None of the 50th anniversary models are available to buy new, so preowned is the only way of getting one, happy hunting.
