Owner Review: Longines 30CH Chronograph

Longines 30CH Chronograph

Longines chronographs with the 13.33Z, 13ZN and 30CH calibers are (imho) the most beautiful in-house, hand-winding chronographs ever produced. Today I am talking about my mid 50s Longines 30CH Chronograph steel ref. 5982. I often use it in rotation with other Longines chronographs in my collection. I wear it on any occasion but not when I travel, especially by plane (too many risks of hits!). It is over 70 years old but it is still very precise, with a complication that is not common even today, the fly-back.

The diameter is perfect, 38.2 mm, and it also fits well on big wrists (mine is 19cm). It is thin, no more than 10 mm. It is discreet and formal but I also wear it with jeans and a t-shirt. The dial is perfectly legible but not without light. The color of this dial has been lightened by time. There is no patina and the white of the dial has taken on a very delicate tone of cream. It seems like a watercolor, bright because of golden indexes and spheres. The effect is charming and very elegant, with an original diamond look maxi-crown.

The better way to wear it is with a leather strap. I do not like it on a metal band.

In general it is a very addictive watch. Often when I look at the time I just keep observing it. It is not rare for me to need to look a second time because the first time I got enchanted.

The 30CH chronos have been realized in many references, in pink and yellow gold and steel. I have classified more than 30 references. No brand today or in the past offers such a variety of versions with their chronos.

The in-house produced caliber is wonderful. It measures 13 lignes (about 30cm diameter) and is very modern, incredibly well finished, and above all very resilient.

At last, I consider the Longines 30CH Chronograph a very up-to-date chrono in size and from a technical point of view. It is really valuable and has a cool aesthetic that I am not able to find today other than with the exceptional references of the top marques.
