The current Longines brand is stuck between a rock and a hard place within the Swatch Group. Those that know within the vintage world are well aware that Longines should be higher up the swatch luxury pyramid due to their historic contribution to fine watchmaking. Their horological input far exceeds that of their adopted big brother Omega. With chronograph movements like the 13zn in their stable, they can more than hold their own in the world of precision timing. With the Longines Monopusher Chronograph I think they hope to enjoy some of that legacy.
That was a while ago though and since those glory days Longines has struggled to fight back to where they truly belong. They might not be making manual wind chronographs anymore but they are still making monopushers and this one even has a pulsation dial for those doctors out there. This little beauty really should have got more press than it did. When it comes to value for money I wish this website could have an 11 out of 10 rating. It’s a monopusher with a lacquered dial, blued Breguet hands and a column wheel movement. Who else even does that? Patek, but you might need to save up for a little bit longer and have their team of forensic accountants look over your last five years of bank statements. Or you could just get one of these.
As always nothing in life is ever perfect. I would have made it a manual wind and hopefully it would come in a bit thinner. The case does look a bit thick from the side. Although Longines are doing the best they can with the movements available to them and this movement is pretty great for a distant cousin of the commonplace 7750. The small date corrector pusher can be a bit annoying but again they are working within the limitations of the movement. The 19mm lug width might bother a few people because you will likely need to get all new straps for this watch but that is about as far as the complaints go. There just isn’t much bad to say about the Longines Monopusher Chronograph. I can’t think of any watch offering anywhere near this much value for money.
